Misunderstandings and broken expectations are the major factors that affect our relationship with our partner, hence it is very important to start a relationship after developing a certain level of understanding with your partner. It is very important to know your partner before entering into a relationship and this is possible only if you interact with them and try to know about them to understand your level of compatibility.
A lot of people do not really know how to interact with their partners on a date or while going out to see a suitor for marriage. In a country like India, arranged marriages are very common. The couple hardly meets twice or thrice before finalizing their decision. The time is very limited and you cannot meet again and again. Even in love marriages, people spend a lot of time with each other but are not able to understand their partner completely.
This leads to a lot of problems after marriage. In order to build a healthy relationship, it is important to ask, to know and to understand the other person in the right way.
Introduce yourself both professionally and personally. Tell them about your likes and dislikes and ask them about theirs. It is important to discuss your personality traits, aims, ambitions, habits and your expectations from your relationship. Whether you want to live in a nuclear family or joint family, whether you want to work after marriage or whether you like doing household chores or not, questions like these should be asked without any hesitation to understand how you both are complementing each other.
For a working relationship, it is important to spend quality time with your partner and talk about yourself. If not every day, at least 5-7 hours a week should be dedicated completely to your partner. No work, no phone, only you and your partner.
Avoid calling and texting your partner every now and then. This leads to enmeshment which can be suffocating. Don’t be needy and give your partner some space. Stop cribbing and complaining unnecessarily and aim towards building your relationship on trust and right understanding.
